The Paralympic Council of Ireland (PCI) today announced OCS as one of the official sponsors of the 2012 Irish Paralympic Team at an event in Dublin Airport.
The partnership agreement sees OCS becoming title sponsor of the inaugural Irish Paralympic Awards which will take place following the team’s return from the 2012 Paralympic Games in London. The OCS Irish Paralympic Awards will be the first of its kind in Irish Paralympic Sport, honouring the achievements, successes and contributions of the Irish Paralympic team and its support network over the London cycle.
Announcing the partnership agreement, PCI Chief Executive Officer, Liam Harbison stated: “We are extremely pleased and excited to have such a leading established Irish organisation such as OCS Ireland partner the Irish Paralympic Team for what is effectively a home Games in London. As title sponsor of our inaugural Irish Paralympic awards, OCS Ireland and its team will be at the heart of celebrating and honouring the best of this Irish Paralympic team.’
Speaking at the announcement Cecil Ryan, Regional Managing Director OCS Europe, said: “OCS is delighted to be associated with the Irish Paralympic Team over the course of the next two years as the athletes strive to realise their sporting dreams in London. The athletes are a great source of inspiration and it will be exciting and motivational for our team at OCS to support and be associated with the entire team. A selection of Irish Paralympic athletes bidding for qualification for London 2012 were in attendance at the event to meet the latest company to put their name to the growing list of organisations backing the Irish Paralympics team in their journey to the 2012 Paralympics Games. These included Ireland’s Boccia World Champion Padraic Moran, rower Karen Cromie from Bangor who is preparing for the upcoming 2010 Rowing World Championships in New Zealand, table tennis player Eimear Breathnach; herself a Beijing Paralympian, and Paralympic and World Champion (T37 800m) on the track Michael McKillop, who is working towards retaining his World title at the 201 IPC Athletics World Championships in January, also in New Zealand.
The PCI has a number of programmes underway in the lead in to the London 2012 Games, including the International Camps, and the Renault Ireland Team 2012 Camps Programme in Limerick and the Team Manager Leadership Development Programme. The London Strategy Group is busy developing the sports science & medical strategy for the team. PCI will also be launching further programmes in the coming months such as the Supporter Liaison initiative, the London Coach Support Programme and a comprehensive Education Awareness Programme targeted at schoolchildren throughout the country.
